This is a part-time position with a maximum of 1,508 hours per year and is not eligible for paid holidays, leave, or benefits.

Job Description

The part-time Building Brains Afterschool Program Leader will be assisting the afterschool director in planning and implementation of daily programming to meet the needs of the children in attendance. The successful candidate will be collaborating with and assisting staff in designing and implementing activities and assignments to encourage attendees intellectual, creative, artistic, and athletic enrichment and abilities. In this role, the incumbent will be assisting students in working on and completing after school program assignments, projects, and activities; helping set up programs, projects, and activity areas as needed; and monitoring children to ensure their health, safety, and physical well-being.

Essential Duties

  • Assisting the afterschool director with the development and coordination of a calendar for program activities and events designed to complement student learning and enrichment, as well as assisting in planning and conducting an orientation program for parents and students to assure all parties and participants understanding program rules, policies, and procedures
  • Acting as a liaison between parents, staff, and school personnel and assisting in conferring with parents regarding student performance and behavior as necessary
  • Assisting in maintaining program standards of student behavior to achieve effective participation in activities without interfering with the natural, informal atmosphere of the Program; assisting in resolving student disputes; referring serious discipline problems to program supervisors
  • Interacting with children in a friendly and supportive manner to help them improve self-esteem and social skills with their peers; answering student questions; providing proper examples; and providing emotional support as well as general guidance
  • Demonstrating and assisting students with art projects and overseeing students in physical activities, including but not limited to, basketball, kickball, softball, dodgeball, running etc.
  • Performing routine first aid, enforcing and ensuring health and safety rules are observed, and preforming First Aid and CPR in emergency situations according to established procedures
  • Maintaining a clean and organized environment for students and demonstrating and involving students in cleaning and organizing the program activities area before, during, and after use
  • Performing clerical duties in support of program activities such as preparing, typing, duplicating, and filing materials; logging and recording information; creating and maintaining records and files; answering telephones, scheduling activities, and assisting with enrolling students
  • Operating a variety of supplies and equipment, including athletic equipment, arts and crafts equipment, and office equipment
  • Assisting in accounting procedures for budgeting and expenditures and inventory of equipment and supplies
  • Collaborating to develop and implement a public relations agenda to promote student enrollment and communicating the program objectives and activities
  • Participating in regular staff meetings and assisting with in-service training on an as-needed basis
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Public Speaking Duties

  • Leading and/or facilitating educational programs for 10 to 25 students
  • Interacting with groups of students with patience, tact, and diplomacy

Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL).

Hourly rate

  • $16.80 per hour

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED AND

  • One year of experience working in an organized camp, afterschool, daycare, or similar setting with school-aged children

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.

  • Driver's license

  • CPR and First Aid certifications (required within first 90 days of employment)
