What youll do on a typical day

The Part-time Biology Coach position is a part-time position responsible for assisting students with their subject area of expertise which could include: general biology, microbiology and/or anatomy and physiology. Primary duty includes providing assistance designed to promote student success. The coach collaborates with faculty to help increase awareness of services offered on both campuses by the Learning Commons and to assist in development of skills and confidence necessary for academic success. This position reports directly to the Director, Learning Commons.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain current knowledge of subject area assigned
  • Collaborate with faculty concerning students' academic progress and needs
  • Provide assistance to students both onsite and online
  • Refer students to other Learning Commons services and other College resources and services as needed and appropriate
  • Lead Academic Support Workshops in-person or virtually when assigned by the Director, Learning Commons
  • Maintain appropriate paperwork and documentation needed for FTE recording and compliance purposes
  • Prepare reports as requested by the Director, Learning Commons
  • Maintain open, robust, and timely communication with colleagues and supervisor
  • Provide academic support that promotes equitable student outcomes
  • Monitor the proper usage of facilities
  • Assist in recommending appropriate resources
  • Promote awareness of the Learning Commons coaching centers among faculty, staff, and students
  • Collaborate with the Learning Commons staff to develop meaningful evaluations of services and use data to inform decision making processes
  • Support the mission, vision, and values of the College and attend College events and meetings
  • Perform other tasks as assigned which support the mission and initiatives of the College

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field from an accredited institution OR two years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Biology or related field from an accredited institution
  • Experience working with college students in a flexible setting
  • Experience as a tutor
  • Flexible schedule
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with others
  • Experience with Google Workspace
