Job Description
About us:
Burlington Recreation and Parks offers many parks and specialized facilities located throughout the community for all types of recreation. Learn more about Burlingtons unique parks and facilities.
What you will do:
An employee in this position performs a variety of general athletic maintenance duties.
Examples of Duties
Field Preparation and Maintenance:
- Drag, line, and change field sets for up to 12 ballfields daily, ensuring they are ready for youth and adult baseball and softball recreation.
- Prepare fields for collegiate and professional events, ensuring they meet the required standards.
- Repair infield skinned areas after weather events, ensuring safe play conditions.
- Make judgment calls on field playability after weather events to ensure safety for all participants.
Soccer and Lacrosse Field Setup:
- Set up and tear down soccer and lacrosse fields, including the proper arrangement of equipment, ensuring a smooth and organized event.
Equipment Management:
- Conduct daily inspections of equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
- Perform general cleaning and maintenance of equipment to ensure longevity and optimal performance.
General Landscaping and Facility Support:
- Perform general landscaping duties and assist with various maintenance tasks across all facilities, contributing to a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Driving and Vehicle Operation: Capable of driving a vehicle with a loaded trailer, ensuring safe and efficient transport in accordance with all applicable laws.
- Safety Compliance: Committed to following all safety policies and procedures to maintain a secure work environment.
- Decision-Making and Initiative: Demonstrates strong judgment and initiative, effectively managing tasks and responsibilities with minimal guidance.
- Independent Work Ability: Able to work autonomously, completing tasks and meeting goals without the need for direct supervision.
- Teamwork and Collaboration: Skilled in establishing and maintaining positive, professional relationships with colleagues, contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 16 years of age to apply.
- Valid NC Drivers License is required.
- Employee should have general maintenance and equipment operation knowledge.

The City of Burlington does not offer benefits to part-time positions which require less than 1000 work hours per calendar year.
