Job Summary

Indiana University East Athletics is seeking a Part-Time Assistant Track and Field Coach. This position plays a key role in recruiting, developing, and mentoring student-athletes while contributing to a positive and competitive team culture. All duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of affiliated national, regional, and state intercollegiate athletic associations, the NAIA, and the University.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Works collaboratively with the Athletics Department to support the overall mission of the university.
• Performs a variety of roles for the assigned sport, including recruiting prospective student-athletes, coordinating and assisting with recruiting visits, and providing coaching and supervision during practices and competitions. The Assistant Coach will report to the Head Coach of the assigned sport, or to the Athletic Director.
• Actively recruits qualified student-athletes for the assigned sport through phone calls, emails, visits, and attendance at recruiting events. Works with coaches, athletic directors, prospective student-athletes, and their families to promote Indiana University East and encourage enrollment and participation in the athletic program.
• Provides coaching, instruction, and supervision during practices and competitions. Responsibilities may include coaching specific skill areas or providing general team support, as assigned.
• May assist with the temporary needs of other athletic teams, including coaching and supervision, as directed by the Athletic Director or Assistant Athletic Director.
• Assists with departmental operations and performs other duties within the Athletics Department as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

• Bachelors degree.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• Experience working or competing in Esports.
• Strong technical knowledge of PC hardware, Windows OS, and gaming peripherals.
• Proficiency with streaming software (OBS), Discord, and tournament platforms.

Preferred

• Previous coaching experience at the collegiate, high school, or semi-professional level.
• Experience in digital content creation, broadcast production, or social media management.
• Familiarity with ECAC regulations.

SKILLS

Required

• A strong commitment to the student-athlete concept and a working knowledge of ECAC rules and regulations.
• Proficient communication skills.
• Basic math skills.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
• Ability to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the university, ECAC, and the NAIA.
• Ability to recruit, coach, and teach highly talented student athletes.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires sedentary work as well as durations of moving around the workplace. This role frequently requires the ability to handle or operate objects, controls, or tools listed above. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This role may include coaching in hot and cold indoor facilities, and exposure to elements such as fumes, inadequate lighting, glare, awkward working position, dust, etc. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.

Ability to work evenings and weekends.
