Primary Purpose:

The Pre-K 3 Assistant Teacher at the Sheldon Early Learning Center supports the implementation of a high-quality early childhood program designed to promote school readiness through play-based learning, social-emotional development, language acquisition, and foundational academic skills. The assistant teacher works collaboratively with the classroom teacher to ensure a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment aligned with Sheldon ISD expectations and Texas Pre-K guidelines.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED (required)
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or early childhood coursework (preferred)
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Understanding of infant development, safety, and nurturing techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively with young children, parents, and staff
  • Basic knowledge of diapering, feeding, and infant health practices
  • Patience, reliability, and a caring attitude toward children
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate, play-based instructional activities that support early literacy, numeracy, language, and social-emotional growth.
  • Support small group instruction, learning centers, hands-on activities, and structured play opportunities.
  • Supervise and actively engage students during classroom instruction, outdoor learning, meals, rest time, transitions, and arrival/dismissal.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and stimulating classroom environment that reflects early childhood best practices.
  • Assist students with toileting, hygiene routines, dressing, and other age-appropriate self-help skills while promoting independence.
  • Reinforce positive behavior supports and model appropriate social interactions.
  • Prepare instructional materials, manipulatives, classroom displays, and learning stations as directed by the teacher.
  • Observe student participation and communicate concerns or notable progress to the classroom teacher.
  • Support implementation of campus procedures related to safety, supervision ratios, and emergency protocols.
  • Participate in campus meetings, professional learning opportunities, and family engagement events as assigned.
  • Follow all Sheldon ISD policies, procedures, and expectations regarding student supervision, confidentiality, and professionalism.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent bending, lifting (up to 35 lbs), and floor-level interaction with infants

  • Exposure to diapering, feeding materials, and infant bodily fluids

  • Fast-paced, nurturing environment with constant supervision responsibilities

  • Minimum Salary $14.00 hourly

  • Salary is commensurate with experience.

  • Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.

Sheldon ISD will accept applications for this position through July 29, 2026. After this date, applications will continue to be accepted in the event a suitable candidate is not identified.
