Primary Purpose:
The Pre-K 3 Assistant Teacher at the Sheldon Early Learning Center supports the implementation of a high-quality early childhood program designed to promote school readiness through play-based learning, social-emotional development, language acquisition, and foundational academic skills. The assistant teacher works collaboratively with the classroom teacher to ensure a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment aligned with Sheldon ISD expectations and Texas Pre-K guidelines.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED (required)
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or early childhood coursework (preferred)
- CPR/First Aid Certification (required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Understanding of infant development, safety, and nurturing techniques
- Ability to communicate effectively with young children, parents, and staff
- Basic knowledge of diapering, feeding, and infant health practices
- Patience, reliability, and a caring attitude toward children
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate, play-based instructional activities that support early literacy, numeracy, language, and social-emotional growth.
- Support small group instruction, learning centers, hands-on activities, and structured play opportunities.
- Supervise and actively engage students during classroom instruction, outdoor learning, meals, rest time, transitions, and arrival/dismissal.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and stimulating classroom environment that reflects early childhood best practices.
- Assist students with toileting, hygiene routines, dressing, and other age-appropriate self-help skills while promoting independence.
- Reinforce positive behavior supports and model appropriate social interactions.
- Prepare instructional materials, manipulatives, classroom displays, and learning stations as directed by the teacher.
- Observe student participation and communicate concerns or notable progress to the classroom teacher.
- Support implementation of campus procedures related to safety, supervision ratios, and emergency protocols.
- Participate in campus meetings, professional learning opportunities, and family engagement events as assigned.
- Follow all Sheldon ISD policies, procedures, and expectations regarding student supervision, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Working Conditions:
Frequent bending, lifting (up to 35 lbs), and floor-level interaction with infants
Exposure to diapering, feeding materials, and infant bodily fluids
Fast-paced, nurturing environment with constant supervision responsibilities
Minimum Salary $14.00 hourly
Salary is commensurate with experience.
Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
