Duties: The Parks Worker II position performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, construction, and landscaping duties related to the upkeep and improvement of City parks, grounds, and recreational facilities. In addition to performing hands-on work, this position serves as a crew leader, providing day-to-day direction, training, and oversight of assigned staff and work crews. The Parks Worker II works with limited supervision. Leads and participates in daily park maintenance activities, including litter removal, groundskeeping, and facility upkeep. Collects litter and debris from parks and recreational areas by hand; fills, removes, and disposes of trash bags (averaging approximately ten filled bags per person per morning). Empties trash receptacles and ensures proper disposal of waste in City-designated dumpsters. Loads and unloads trash, equipment, and materials from City trucks and trailers. Mows grass and maintains landscaped areas using riding mowers, push mowers, weed eaters, trimmers, and related equipment. Trims around trees, buildings, sidewalks, playground equipment, and park fixtures to maintain safe and attractive conditions. Constructs, installs, and maintains flower beds, landscaped areas, and irrigation components as assigned. Assists with or leads construction and repair projects involving walkways, park structures, playground equipment, benches, shelters, fencing, and related facilities. Plants, prunes, and maintains trees, shrubs, and other vegetation; trims tree limbs as needed for safety and appearance. Applies herbicides and other landscape treatments in accordance with state regulations when properly licensed or certified. Performs routine inspection, cleaning, and basic maintenance of tools, equipment, and vehicles; reports mechanical issues or safety concerns. Ensures assigned crew members follow established safety policies, procedures, and proper equipment operation. Assists with training new or less-experienced workers in job duties, equipment use, and safety practices. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Works the assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policy.
Qualifications:High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED). One to three months of related experience or training in parks maintenance, landscaping, construction, or a related field. Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying materials, kneeling, crouching and bending; pushing, pulling and reaching; and standing for prolonged periods of time. Valid Texas Driver's License and a good driving record. PREFERRED: Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).Texas license or certification to apply herbicides.Previous experience leading or supervising work crews.
