Job Description
The City of Avondale is accepting applications for Parks Maintenance Worker in the Parks, Recreation & Libraries Department.
Provides general maintenance and repair to City parks and sports fields. The duties of the Parks Maintenance Worker will include, but are not limited to, irrigation system maintenance, daily restroom cleaning and stocking, trimming of trees and bushes, turf maintenance including over-seeding, fertilizing, and top dressing, playground cleaning and ongoing maintenance, picnic shelter cleaning and upkeep, trash, and debris removal. The Parks Maintenance Workers main goal is to ensure all park elements are in working order and to provide a safe, clean environment for all park visitors. The Parks Maintenance Worker will assist the Parks Maintenance Lead with any other assigned duties.
This position may require participation in a rotational schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. The schedule will be Sunday-Thursday, 5:30 AM - 2:00 PM. The schedule is subject to change.
Essential Functions
Ensures irrigation systems are properly operating to provide effective watering to City Parks. The incumbent installs, troubleshoots, and repairs various types and models of irrigation controllers, including electrical troubleshooting of all systems, such as transient protection boards, step-down transformers, and system wires.
Assists with field and park preparation and maintenance using dragging, lining, and upkeep of infields.
Performs skilled maintenance and repairs required for the upkeep of playgrounds, picnic shelters, irrigation systems, landscaping, and sports turf.
Maintains sports turf; aerates, fertilizes, and seeds turf areas. Sets up proper watering systems for seasonal turf. Assists with storage of equipment and supplies.
Operate landscape equipment, such as mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, chippers, hedge trimmers, spreaders, backpack sprayers, sod cutters, utility vehicles, tractors, aerators, etc. Utilize small tools and equipment for basic maintenance and irrigation repairs.
Assists the Parks Maintenance Lead in park projects, training staff and working with outside contractors.
Daily cleaning, maintenance, and stocking of park restrooms.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalency is required.
Three (3) years of experience working in parks maintenance or a related field.
A valid Arizona Drivers License is required.
Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification upon hire.
