Position Summary
The Park Maintenance Supervisor plans, coordinates and reviews the daily activities of the park maintenance crews to ensure that park and recreational services are efficiently delivered to the community.
This is a Safety Sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
Education, Training, Experience, Certifications, Licenses and Registrations
Education / higher education: AA Degree or equivalent
For required college degrees, applicable field(s) of study: Parks management, landscape architecture, turf management or related field.
Minimum number of years of directly related experience: Four years directly related experience and/or training. In lieu of a degree, incumbent must possess six years of relevant experience.
Education and/or experience preferences: Other public pesticide applicators licenses.
Driver's License requirement: Frequent Driver -- Regular Drivers License Required Endorsements: None
Note -- For any driver, driving record must always meet City driving and insurability standards.
Required certifications, licenses or registrations: None.
Time given after hire/promotion to obtain certification or licenses: N/A
Preferred certifications, licenses or registrations: Public Pesticide/Herbicide License or other public pesticide applicator licenses. Rio Rancho Backflow Tester Certification.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge: Parks and recreation principles and practices related to landscaping and turf management.
Skills: Must be able to type rapidly and accurately enough to successfully produce documents/spreadsheets, communicate via e-mail, or perform data entry as necessary to accomplish the essential functions of the position. Use of technology, equipment and software typically used in the office environment. Operate a personal computer using word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
Abilities: Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees. Use math concepts to present data in charts, graphs, and presentations.
Interaction with Groups/Agencies/Entities: Internal: Works with other department supervisors, managers and directors on routine assignments and special projects. Maintains harmonious, courteous, and understanding relationships, while fostering a collaborative teamwork environment. External: Works with contractors and the general public on parks maintenance issues and resolves complaints. Presents a friendly, courteous image for the City to the general public, customers, and public officials. Works with state forestry and other volunteers groups on bosque restoration. Works with department of agriculture on compliance and license requirements. Works with playground auditors on playgrounds, vendors, engineers and architects.
