Parent Mentor--Special Ed Department
One part-time Parent Mentor to work 4hrs per day, Monday through Friday on a 186 day calendar. Responsible for assisting parents in issues related to special education.
Requirements:
- Minimum of high school diploma
- Must be the parent of a child with a disability
Job Duties:
- Provides parents with information related to the district's special education program procedures, parent rights, and referral, evaluation, identification, and placement process
- Collaborates with parents, school staff, school administration, and community agencies to better meet the needs of special education students
- Provides inservices to parents related to special education policies, procedures, and effective practices pertaining to federal and state laws and district procedures
- Provides support to parents during referral, evaluation, IEP development and review, placement and/or the reevaluation process
- Models the collaborative/consultation/problem-solving processes for parents, staff, and community agencies
- Identifies the needs of parents to facilitate parent involvement in the special education process
- Advises the district administration of parent needs
- Participates in special education program planning
- Participates in both in-district and out-of-district opportunities as the district's special education parent representative
- Collaborates with other parent mentors throughout the state
- Provides inservices to district staff related to the parent perspectives, understanding parent needs and strategies to support parents in the special education process and programming

- Salary Range $24.23/hr to $30.76/hr*
