About Us

The Francis Howell School District (FHSD) is dedicated to supporting families and their children through comprehensive educational services. We are seeking a committed Parent Educator to deliver parent education services to families participating in the Parents As Teachers Program.

Job Summary

The Parent Educator provides educational services to parents, helping them develop effective parenting skills and strategies to support their children's development. This role involves conducting home visits, organizing educational sessions, and connecting families to additional resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Meetings & Workshops:

Attend meetings and workshops to stay informed about best practices and research in early childhood education.

  • Communication & Collaboration:

Maintain regular communication with staff members and professional organizations to share information and provide direction as needed.

  • Data Management:

Compile and update files using various sources and ensure accurate record-keeping.

  • Facilitation of Parent-Child Interactions:

Promote and enhance secure attachments between parents and children through structured interactions.

  • Documentation:

Maintain accurate records of screenings and visits, adhering to local, state, and federal guidelines.

  • Screening Administration:

Organize and administer developmental screenings, explaining results and guiding families to appropriate services when necessary.

  • Group Connections:

Plan and prepare group sessions for parents, following the Early Childhood Development Act criteria to provide insights into parenting and child development.

  • Parent Education:

Educate parents on effective behaviors, such as supportive learning and nurturing, to enhance their parenting skills.

  • Resource Guidance:

Offer guidance and up-to-date resources to parents to support their child's development and academic success.

  • Family Referrals:

Connect families to external agencies when additional support is needed.

  • Home Visits:

Schedule and conduct home visits using the approved curriculum to determine school placement based on the child's age and development.

  • Other Duties:

Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure efficient program operation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:

  • Minimum: Targeted, job-related education with a focus on early childhood development.

  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in early childhood development.

  • Experience: Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.

  • Skills:

Proficiency in using office equipment and software, planning and managing programs, maintaining accurate records, and building effective relationships.

  • Knowledge:

Understanding of child development stages, teaching strategies, and relevant laws, codes, and regulations.

  • Abilities:

Ability to schedule and conduct activities independently, work with diverse individuals and data, and adapt to changing priorities.
