About our Department:
The mission of Public Transportation is to provide safe, efficient, and customer-friendly transit services to citizens and guests of the community. The City of Huntsville's 19 Access vehicles are radio dispatched and ADA accessible. Access is a specialized, door-to-door, demand-response paratransit service.
Paratransit Operator Position Overview:
This is skilled work in the operation of a paratransit vehicle for the transportation of persons with disabilities and/or the elderly throughout the city limits as assigned. Work involves responsibility for driving a 15-passenger modified van, transporting passengers in a safe, courteous, and professional manner, and providing assistance to persons with mobility impairments to and from the vehicle. Work also involves responsibility for conducting daily vehicle inspections, performing basic record-keeping duties, collecting fares from customers, and providing information.
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:
• High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency and experience in driving large vehicles and transporting the public; or any combination of education, training, and experience. • Valid Class D Drivers License • This position requires maintaining an excellent Motor Vehicle Record as set annually by the Liability Insurance Company.
