Paraprofessional (Teachers' Aide)
The paraprofessional will assist full-time teachers, reinforcing materials and lessons covered in the classroom to facilitate student learning. This position coordinates with the student services director, school administrators, teachers, and interventionists, along with other school support staff, students, parents, and the community.
This list is not all-inclusive and is only intended to illustrate the various responsibilities and duties performed:
Provides support to the lead teacher in classroom instruction and management.
Assists with classroom activities and lessons.
Works with individual students who require additional or modified instruction.
Administers assessments and quizzes to students.
Grades tests and homework and completes other clerical work related to classroom operations.
Prepares communication folders to be sent home with students.
Monitors students when the lead teacher is out of the classroom.
Escorts students to other areas of the school such as the cafeteria, playground, gym, or other classrooms; monitors their behavior during recess and lunchtime.
Assists with student drop-off and pickup.
Administers student assistance in hygiene, food consumption, complex special needs or complex medical devices as necessary.
Manages calendars and schedules appointments.
Monitors halls, study periods, and lunch with other faculty and staff.
Participates in professional development opportunities as necessary.
Attends work as scheduled and arrives in a timely manner.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Thorough understanding of classroom procedures and management. Ability to relate to children and reinforce lessons taught in class. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to collaborate with the lead teacher. Strong supervisory and leadership skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
High school diploma; holding or obtaining paraprofessional educator license (PARA) within the first year of employment; and completion of paraprofessional training through the district within the first year of employment are required. Associates degree and three years of previous experience in a related role is highly preferred.
Able to navigate all areas of the school quickly including indoor and outdoor areas. Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classroom. Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at a time. Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties. Must be able to kneel, sit, stand, crawl, push, and pull to assist and teach children throughout the day. Prolonged periods sitting and working on the computer to complete necessary paperwork.
