Qualifications
Candidates must have earned the following:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Associate's Degree or at least 60 semester credit hours from an accredited University
- Successful Score on ETS Parapro Assessment
Roles & Responsibilities
- Support instructional under the direction of a teacher (small groups; 1:1; classroom support).
- Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Implement accommodations, modifications, and behavior plans as directed.
- Reinforce academic, social, and communication skills through guided practice and prompting.
- Collect data on student progress, behavior, and engagement using provided tools.
- Use de-escalation, crisis-prevention, and positive behavior supports per training and policy.
- Support students during transitions, recess, arrival/dismissal, and specials as assigned.
- Assist with preparation of instructional materials and classroom organization, related to the student's IEP accommodations under the direction of the student's special education team.
- Provide personal-care assistance when required (toileting; feeding; hand-over-hand support; mobility assistance).
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all District and legal guidelines and policies.
- Work to promote student independence.
Physical Requirements
The successful candidate must have the ability to:
- Remain in a stationary position (seated or standing) for extended periods.
- Move throughout the classroom/building environment to supervise & support students.
- Safely perform physical prompts or assistance with student mobility (supporting transfers; escorting a student), with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and/or crouch to assist students at desk/floor level.
- Lift and/or reposition up to 15 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Respond quickly to student safety needs (intervening in a conflict; activating emergency protocol).
- Tolerate typical school environmental conditions (noise; movement; frequent transitions).
- Assist students with problem solving when adjustment and academic problems arise.
- Provide staff support in an educational environment.
- Physically manage students when they are in danger of hurting themselves or others.
This position reports to the Director of Special Education.
