Job Summary
HCA Healthcare Trident Hospital is seeking a visionary Palliative Care Physician to lead the development and expansion of a comprehensive interdisciplinary palliative care program. This is a rare opportunity to build a program from the ground up, shape clinical services across the continuum of care, with a longer-term goal to establish a Palliative Care Fellowship Program.
The ideal candidate is a clinically excellent, mission-driven physician with a passion for whole-person care, education, systems design, and leadership. You will work collaboratively with a dynamic leadership team to create a high-quality program that advances quality, equity, and compassionate care for patients with serious illness.
Qualified Candidates and Preferred Qualifications
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Hospice & Palliative Medicine • Have a South Carolina medical license or the ability to get a South Carolina medical license prior to starting • Demonstrate excellence in clinical palliative care • Experience building or leading clinical programs • Interest in academic leadership and fellowship development • Strong communication, teaching, and mentorship skills • Systems-thinking mindset with entrepreneurial energy • Commitment to whole-person, culturally responsive care
Clinical Leadership and Program Development
Design launch and grow an integrated inpatient palliative care service Develop and lead interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, APPs, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and therapists Develop clinical pathways for symptom management, goals-of-care, and serious illness communication Collaborate with oncology, cardiology, ICU, hospital medicine, and community partners Serve as a thought leader and ambassador for palliative care Foster a culture of compassion, resilience, and interdisciplinary collaboration Partner with executive leadership to align program growth within system priorities
