Job Summary

Responsible for evaluation, planning, directing, and administering physical therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed physician. Administers treatments and physical agents as prescribed by a referring physician to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease, or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. The staff therapist coordinates, delegates, and supervises responsibilities assigned to supportive staff, including Physical Therapy Assistants and Physical Therapy Aides and Restorative CNAs.

Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for direction of the Physical Therapy Department certified staff, including Physical Therapy Assistants and Physical Therapy Aides and Restorative CNAs.
  2. Ability to observe and evaluate treatment effect, recommends change to physician as needed.
  3. Ability to perform an appropriate assessment on all patients as related to the therapy requested and provided, and reassessments as per policy.
  4. Able to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
  5. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
  6. Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate.
  7. Demonstrates knowledge of physical therapy modalities.
  8. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  9. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  10. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  11. Maintains department cleanliness and safety.
  12. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
  13. Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, and administrative team.
  14. Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
  15. Maintains records pertinent to personnel and operation of the department.
  16. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations.
  17. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  18. Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
  19. Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  20. Assists with orientation and in-service training for certified department staff members, participates in guidance and educational programs.
  21. Provides evaluation of certified staff, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, and termination.
  22. Uses the principles of AIDET in every customer encounter.
  23. Completes other duties as assigned and required.

REQUIREMENTS

Current State of Connecticut Physical Therapy Licensure Graduate of an approved school of Physical Therapy or graduate of an accredited college or university Open to New Grads BLS certification Working Conditions: Manual significant manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity Occupational Significant occupational risk Physical Effort Physical Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc. Company: Sharon Hospital Org Unit: 1280 Department: Physical Therapy Exempt: Yes Salary Range: $40.43 - $75.10 Hourly Additional Salary Detail: The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
