Outbound Shipping Operations Lead (PVF)

EHC is partnering with a client in Southwest Houston to hire an experienced leader to run outbound shipping. If you thrive on moving product accurately and fast, guiding a tight-knit crew, and keeping the dock humming, this role puts you at the center of action.

A day in the role

By 7:00 am you are reviewing operational reports, lining up priorities, and allocating people and equipment. You sync with Sales on rush orders and special instructions, coordinate flatbeds, motor freight, and hot shots with Logistics, and clear material discrepancies with QC. Throughout the day, you coach a team of 7–10 on picking, packing, checking, and shipping, keep the dock organized, support Will-Call, and escalate issues quickly. You train, document, and continuously improve processes while maintaining a spotless, safe environment.

Core responsibilities

  • Ensure all shipping equipment is in safe, working condition (forklifts, order pickers, crane, hand tools, and more).
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and leadership; use email extensively with Receiving, Front Office, and Sales.
  • Review daily operational reports to balance workload and deploy overtime when needed.
  • Partner with Sales on order priorities, requests, and problem resolution.
  • Work with Logistics to schedule outbound shipments (flatbeds, motor carriers, hot shots, etc.).
  • Collaborate with QC to resolve material discrepancies and nonconforming stock.
  • Process picking tickets and coordinate details with Sales, Department Supervisors, and QC.
  • Support Will-Call by loading customer vehicles quickly and correctly.
  • Control dock space daily in partnership with Logistics and Sales.
  • Train team members on procedures, submit training records, and target areas for additional coaching.
  • Attend production meetings to surface departmental issues and drive corrective actions.
  • Identify and implement improvements while upholding a clean, safe workplace.
  • Lead, organize, and motivate a team of 7 to 10 employees.
  • Take on additional duties as business needs evolve.

Information and activities critical to quality

Material verification and documentation

  • Perform visual inspection on outbound materials.
  • Record heat numbers for each line item on the Product Release.
  • Verify material markings match the Product Release.
  • Ensure the Product Release is completed accurately.
  • Confirm pallet wrap information is clearly written and correct.
  • Place the BOL on the correct orders before shipment.

Work closely with Sales on

  • Quality changes on orders and substitutions.
  • Hot shipments and ship-via instructions.
  • Cancellation requests and material discrepancies.
  • Project orders requiring special handling.

Will-Call and small parcel

  • Load vehicles correctly and on time.
  • Capture photo verification for each shipment leaving the shipping dock.
  • Package, label, and dispatch all small parcel shipments via UPS the same day.

Shipping dock standards

  • Keep aisles and lanes clear for forklift traffic.
  • Stage shipments in the correct lanes.
  • Run daily checks to catch any missed shipments.

Department responsibilities

Quality Management System (QMS)

  • Train the team on Department Work Instructions, Job Scope, and Process Flow.
  • Align the team with the Quality Policy and related processes.
  • Hold training meetings and submit training records.
  • Conduct quarterly competency reviews and plan follow-up training.

Safety

  • Host brief daily safety talks with the department.
  • Maintain clear aisle ways; organize racks and dock space.
  • Maintain equipment checklists and complete quarterly maintenance on hand tools, pickers, and forklifts.
  • Enforce lockout/tagout protocols.
  • Report equipment breakdowns and safety hazards to leadership and HSE.
  • Continuously build and reinforce a safe working environment.

Qualifications

  • English language proficiency; bilingual Spanish preferred.
  • 3+ years experience in the PVF industry.
  • Ability to read and interpret industry specifications, charts, and tables.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer skills; familiarity with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Solid reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate assigned equipment while standing.
  • Self-starter who works independently with high attention to detail.
  • Skilled at juggling multiple tasks and priorities.
