Colonial Heights is known for being part of the “Tri-Cities” Region, in Southside Virginia. This Region is part of the Greater Richmond metropolitan area that includes the three independent cities of Petersburg, Colonial Heights, and Hopewell. The region is centered around the confluence of the Appomattox and James Rivers, located approximately 25 miles south of Richmond. In addition to the three core cities, the area often includes parts of the surrounding counties: Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, and Prince George.
