What will you be doing: The Ortho Technician is an allied health professional that supports the physician, nursing staff and Medical Assistants in the delivery of health care by performing a variety of patient care duties and tasks related to orthopedic patient needs.

Key Responsibilities: • Assists Physician, NP or PA in assessment of signs, symptoms, analysis, treatment and care of the orthopedic patient. • Provides education, under physician, NP or PA instruction, involving the care and plan of treatment (i.e accurate care of cast and splints). • Assists with application and execution of orthopedic procedures and services concerning the orthopedic patient, under physician, NP or PA direction. • Applies and removes all types of casts, splints, slings, immobilization devices and traction. • Assists with reduction of fractures and dislocation. • Inspects and adjusts bandages and equipment needed for orthopedic care. • Assists in wound closure and removal of wound closure materials. • In the event of an emergency, apply recognized first aid procedures. • Assists with aspirations; Prepare injections; Position, prep and drape patients. • Applies and manages post-operative dressings on wounds following aseptic techniques. • Fits various orthopedic equipment such as walkers, crutches, braces and provides patient with instruction on use and care of the products. • Prepares patients for provider by reviewing current medications and record in medical record as needed. • Sets up exam room/procedure rooms appropriately based on patient visit needs and takes appropriate vital signs. • Performs designated diagnostic tests as advised by provider. • Assists in follow-up scheduling needs; Answer patient calls, questions and addresses problems in timely fashion and communicate all significant clinical findings to the MD. • Serves as liaison with other departments, facilities, and hospital as needed. • Prepares for surgical procedures, assemble, and prepare equipment to the specifications of the surgeon. • May act as first or second assistant in the operating room according to facility policy.

Qualifications Experience Two (2) plus years of experience in outpatient medical setting with orthopedic specialty experience required.

Education Vocational/Technical Diploma from an Orthopedic Technology program preferred.

Licenses/Certification Orthopedic Technologist Certified (OTC) Certification from NBCOT (National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologist), required to acquire within 180-days of start date. BLS from the American Heart Association and/or the American Red Cross.
