MRI Technologies has an exciting opportunity for an Orion Guidance Navigation and Control (GN&C) Engineer on the JETS II contract at NASA Johnson Space Center.
In this role, you will develop and evaluate safety-critical human-rated GN&C flight software for NASAs Orion spacecraft supporting the Artemis Program and future crewed deep space missions. You will be embedded with a collaborative team of engineers at the forefront of human spaceflight technology development.
A typical day involves developing and testing GN&C algorithms in MATLAB and Simulink, collaborating with NASA civil servants to refine flight software requirements, and reviewing simulation results from 6 DOF analysis tools. In the morning, you may be updating orbital mechanics models; in the afternoon, you could be authoring requirements documentation, integrating new trajectory optimization algorithms, or presenting analysis findings to the project team. The work is intellectually challenging, mission-critical, and directly tied to sending astronauts safely beyond Earth orbit.
What We Are Looking For
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 1 year of experience in the field or a related area.
- Experience with Kalman filters.
- Experience with development of modeling spacecraft systems performance.
- Knowledge in the development of GN&C algorithms and spacecraft system analysis.
- Experience with development and analysis of 6 DOF algorithms and simulations.
- Experience with orbital mechanics and GN&C principles.
- Experience with design verification testing and operation of GN&C software.
- Experience with LINUX, Python, MATLAB, Simulink, and CC.
- Experience with Git/GitLab version control.
- Experience with the development of space system requirements and documents.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment consisting of NASA civil servants and contractor employees.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Preferences:
- Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and/or Machine Learning.
- Experience with safety-critical human-rated embedded software development.
- Experience with object-oriented software development.
- Experience with Agile software development.
- Experience with spacecraft rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking.
- Familiarity with spacecraft docking systems.
- Working knowledge of NASA JSC and ISS standard practices and requirements, including safety.
- Experience with NASA flight operations and procedures.
- Familiarity with NASA JSC documentation databases and SharePoint sites.
- Experience with the NASA Trick simulation architecture and JEOD JSC Engineering Orbital Dynamics.
