What We Offer

The Ophthalmic Technician supports inpatient ophthalmology services by performing diagnostic and clinical tasks under the supervision of ophthalmologists, hospitalists, or emergency room physicians. This role is integral to the delivery of high-quality eye care for hospitalized patients, including those in acute, post-operative, and critical care settings.

What You'll Do

  • Perform preliminary patient evaluations, including medical history, visual acuity, and chief complaint documentation
  • Conduct diagnostic testing such as tonometry, visual fields, OCT, and retinal imaging
  • Assist physicians with examinations, minor procedures, and treatments
  • Administer eye medications as directed and provide patient education on care plans
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Ensure exam rooms and equipment are clean, calibrated, and ready for use
  • Support patient flow, scheduling, and coordination of care

What We're Looking For

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 2 Year / Associate Degree, required. Formal Ophthalmic Tech Training, preferred.
  • Experience: 2 years of experience in Hospital or surgical setting experience preferred but not required.
  • Licensure/Certification: Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), required.
  • Additional Skills (required): Proficiency with EMR systems and portable ophthalmic equipment.Strong communication and organizational skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.Ability to work collaboratively with ED, inpatient, and outpatient providers.Ability to obtain and document comprehensive ocular and medical histories in the EMR.Ability to work with nursing, surgical, and medical teams to ensure timely and accurate ophthalmic consults and the communication of results to physicians.
