Missouri State Public Defender (MSPD) is an agency dedicated to providing legal representation to individuals who are unable to afford an attorney in criminal cases. We are committed to upholding the constitutional right to counsel and ensuring fair and just legal proceedings for all citizens.

We are seeking motivated and organized individuals to join our team in Kansas City or St. Louis City as Operations Support Assistant in newly developed centralized roles. In this position, you will play a vital role in supporting multiple offices by assisting with client intake and indigency reviews, serving as a receptionist and point of contact, and providing administrative and logistical support. This collaborative, team-based role offers variety, meaningful work, and the opportunity to directly support MSPD's mission while helping improve efficiency and consistency across offices.

In this centralized support role, you will assist multiple offices by performing a range of administrative duties, including:

  • Reviewing applications for potential clients and assist with eligibility determinations in accordance with MSPD policies and procedures
  • Serving as a receptionist and point of contact, answering phones, greeting visitors, and directing inquiries appropriately
  • Maintaining accurate records, tracking requests, and entering information into MSPD systems
  • Providing general administrative support to ensure smooth day-to-day operations
  • Communicating professionally and effectively with clients, staff, vendors, and external partners
Minimum qualifications include:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years of experience in an administrative, clerical, or customer service role
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service through phone and in-person interactions
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also handling tasks independently
  • Proficiency with basic office technology and willingness to learn MSPD systems


This is a full-time position based in Kansas City.
