Join us!\n \nTHE ROLE\n \nResponsible for event setups and conversions, facility maintenance, and operational support throughout the Petersen Events Center & Victory Heights Arena and Sports Performance Center. The role prepares and maintains the facility for a wide range of events, including sporting events, concerts, banquets, commencements, and private functions.\n \nThis position works under the direction of the Lead Utility, supporting daily operations and assisting with shift leadership responsibilities when appropriate. This is a hands-on operational role within a unionized workforce and is subject to a probationary period.\n \nThe Full-Time Utility position requires a high degree of scheduling flexibility, including the ability to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays as needed to support event operations and weather-related responsibilities.\n \nKey Responsibilities:\n \nEvent Preparation & Conversion\n\n Perform event setups and tear-downs including staging, flooring, tables, chairs, pipe & drape, and related equipment.\n \n\n Support all major facility conversions, adapting the venue to accommodate a wide array of activities including sporting events, performances, trade shows, and private functions.\n \n\n Read and follow event setup layouts and instructions.\n \n\n Move and position furniture, athletic surfaces, and event items according to diagrams.\n \n\n Assist with deliveries, equipment transport, and logistics.\n \n\n \nFacility & Grounds Maintenance\n\n Perform general maintenance, painting, minor repairs, and other upkeep tasks throughout the facility.\n \n\n Maintain exterior areas, ensuring safety and cleanliness in all weather conditions.\n \n\n Handle inclement weather response, including plowing, shoveling, and salting.\n \n\n Maintain and clean basketball courts, athletic playing surfaces, and telescopic bleachers.\n \n\n Operate and maintain forklifts, lifts, snow blowers, plow trucks, and other equipment.\n \n\n \nSupervision & Leadership\n\n Provide direct supervision to part-time/casual utility staff during conversions and event operations.\n \n\n Assign tasks, ensure proper workflow, and oversee work quality during shifts.\n \n\n Serve as acting lead when no senior full-time utility staff are present.\n \n\n Assist in training new full-time and part-time utility staff in proper procedures and equipment use.\n \n\n Communicate effectively with Event Operations leadership regarding work progress, issues, or safety concerns.\n \n\n \nSafety & Compliance\n\n Adhere to and enforce all mandatory safety regulations and facility procedures (including OSHA and NFPA standards) among staff during shifts.\n \n\n Actively promote a safe working environment by properly operating all equipment, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and immediately reporting all hazards or unsafe conditions.\n \n\n \nRequirements:\n\n Willingness to work a highly flexible, event-driven schedule, including overnights, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts.\n \n\n Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and moving heavy equipment (tables, chairs, staging, etc.)\n \n\n Team-oriented mindset with strong organizational and time management skills.\n \n\n Clear and professional communication skills\u2014both verbal and written.\n \n\n Possess the ability to adapt quickly, take initiative, and maintain a high level of professionalism regardless of the hour or challenge.\n \n\n \nPreferred Qualifications:\n\n High school diploma or GED preferred; relevant experience in facility operations, event setups, or conversions is highly desirable.\n \n\n Strong verbal communication, teamwork, and the proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and interpret technical setup diagrams.\n \n\n Must maintain a highly flexible schedule, including consistent availability for nights, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts.\n \n\n Valid driver's license and specialized equipment certifications (e.g., Forklift) are preferred or required upon hire.\n \n\n \nCOMPENSATION\n \nCompetitive salary, commensurate with experience, and a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid vacation, and 401k plan.\n \nPay: $32.25/hr\n \nWORKING CONDITIONS\n \nLocation: On Site \n \nPHYSICAL DEMANDS\n \nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
