Job Overview

We are seeking an Operations Safety Engineer to assess, influence, and verify the operational safety and readiness of next-generation autonomous vehicles. In this role, you will facilitate risk assessments, support incident investigations, monitor fleet safety, and help maintain governance frameworks that align with evolving regulatory requirements and operational objectives.

You will play a pivotal role in establishing, maintaining, and improving operational safety processes across cross-functional engineering teams and multiple geographic testing locations. The ideal candidate combines rigorous analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to influence key stakeholders and drive continuous safety enhancements across a complex technical domain.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) reviews to identify system designs, requirements, and hazards that require operational mitigations.

  • Conduct comprehensive operational hazard assessments using methodologies such as FMEA, STPA, FTA, and bowtie analysis while maintaining live safety risk registers and mitigation strategies.

  • Support root-cause investigations for safety incidents, recommend actionable corrective steps, and ensure effective cross-functional implementation.

  • Partner with engineering teams to evaluate the operational impact of stack or software changes while supporting alignment with industry safety standards.

  • Monitor real-time fleet safety metrics-including near misses, disengagements, and driver interventions-to drive continuous feedback loops between operations and engineering.

  • Oversee operational governance frameworks to ensure safety protocols are consistently followed across different operational verticals and testing geographies.

Qualifications & Required Skills
  • Technical Safety Domain: Strong foundational background in System Safety, Operations Safety, or Functional Safety, ideally within autonomous vehicles, ADAS, robotics, aerospace, or a similarly complex, highly regulated industry.

  • Safety Methodologies: Proven expertise applying formal safety frameworks (such as STPA, FMEA, FTA, or Bowtie Analysis) directly within operational testing environments.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a proven track record of influencing cross-functional working groups across engineering, policy, and frontline operations teams.

  • Analytical Problem Solving: Strong capability to synthesize complex system operational data into clear, actionable safety mitigations and risk registries.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience with autonomous vehicle or ADAS field-testing operations and fleet monitoring.

  • Familiarity with autonomous safety standards and governance frameworks such as ISO 26262, UL 4600, or SOTIF (ISO/PAS 21448).

  • Hands-on exposure to safety case development, operational safety audits, or safety council governance.

  • Experience standardizing safety practices, documentation systems, and training programs across multi-region or global operations.

  • Prior experience building internal safety monitoring tools, incident tracking systems, or real-time telemetry dashboards.
