Operations Manager

This position supports operations at BGDC Distribution's new Schnucks Freezer facility in St. Louis, MO. This is a newly added role to support continued company growth and expansion operations.

Summary:
Under the direction of the General Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for supporting the direction, coordination, and evaluation of product movement and customer service. Carry out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems by performing the duties through subordinate supervisors.

Essential Functions:

• Ensure daily warehouse and distribution operations meet productivity, service, and performance expectations.
• Ensure budgeted revenues, expenses, and operational targets are achieved.
• Support sales and business development initiatives as needed.
• Monitor, document, and improve procedures and KPI performance related to product handling and customer service.
• Partner with the General Manager to develop annual facility budgets.
• Perform regular inspections to ensure compliance with food safety, OSHA, and company safety standards.
• Promote and maintain housekeeping standards that reflect a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Model and reinforce best safety practices to ensure a compliant workplace.
• Monitor claims performance and ensure overall facility security standards are maintained.
• Build and maintain positive customer relationships through strong operational execution and communication.
• Interview, hire, train, coach, discipline, and develop supervisor-level team members.
• Conduct staff meetings and provide performance feedback and development opportunities.
• Submit operational and performance reports in a timely manner.
• Maintain operational procedures for incoming and outgoing shipments, inventory control, and merchandise handling.
• Coordinate warehouse activities with sales, purchasing, and inventory control departments to ensure product availability and operational flow.
• Direct reclamation and handling of damaged merchandise.
• Assign and oversee operational projects within scope of responsibility.
• Monitor department goals and provide progress updates to leadership.
• Review operational schedules and product data to establish priorities and workflow sequences.
• Ensure compliance with all company policies and Federal, State, and Local regulations.
• Prepare operational schedules and coordinate activities to support business objectives.
• Identify safety concerns and cost-saving opportunities while promoting a safe work environment.
• Conduct quarterly safety training and reinforce safe work practices.
• Inspect equipment and review operational reports to resolve operational and maintenance issues.
• Develop and revise operational procedures and best practices as needed.
• Ensure compliance with transportation and safety regulations.
• Manage the site sanitation program and support audit readiness initiatives.
• Report workplace injuries and accidents and assist with modified duty assignments when necessary.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

• Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in warehouse, distribution, or logistics operations required.
• Experience leading supervisors and operational teams in a fast-paced environment preferred.
• Strong leadership, team development, and employee coaching abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict resolution abilities.
• Ability to interpret HR policies, safety regulations, and operational procedures.
• Strong customer service orientation with a high sense of urgency.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
• Experience working with WMS and RF systems preferred.
• Ability to analyze operational issues and implement effective solutions.
