Position Summary

The Operations Manager reports to the Director of Operations and is responsible for managing all elements of facility operations including budgeting, purchasing, event changeovers, equipment maintenance, telecommunications, security, custodial, audio/visual, and safety.

This role pays an annual salary of $47,000-$53,000

About the Venue

Western Kentucky's award-winning venue - the Owensboro Convention Center - is a full-service facility overlooking the scenic Ohio River in revitalized downtown Owensboro, Kentucky. The multi-purpose center boasts just under 102,000 sq. ft. of available space, including a 44,000+ sq. ft. exhibition hall, the 8,900+ sq. ft. Kentucky Legend Pier outside over the scenic Ohio River, and additional ballroom, meeting, and pre-function space.

The Sportscenter, one of Owensboro's most historic buildings, opened in 1949. It is a multi-purpose, 5,000-seat arena that hosts concerts, sporting events, graduations, trade shows, meetings, and receptions.

The Bluegrass Fieldhouse is an 88,000 square foot indoor sports and events facility with the flexibility to host local, regional, and national events across numerous sports.

Responsibilities

  • Manage overall daily operations of the facilities.
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for all event changeovers.
  • Meet with staff to identify and resolve problems, assign work activities, projects and programs.
  • Monitor work flows, review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures.
  • Select, train, motivate and evaluate staff.
  • Provide or coordinate staff training, work with employees to correct deficiencies, implement discipline and termination procedures.
  • Manage labor hours for staff and temporary workers.
  • Report labor allocations to Finance Department.
  • Participate in the development and administration of the Operations budget; Monitor and approve expenditures.
  • Forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Implement adjustments as necessary.
  • Manage and upkeep the facilities'' custodial function.
  • Ensure staff is working safely, efficiently and are aware of proper safety guidelines.
  • Order supplies, materials, and tools as needed.
  • Develop and maintain an accurate record keeping system; including equipment maintenance and inventory logs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in an operations position in arena, convention center or public assembly facility with knowledge of set up/housekeeping and event coordination including progressive supervisory responsibility.
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited college/university in a related field (Facility Management, Engineering, Sports Management, etc.) preferred.
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required.
  • Familiarity with OSHA requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required; including excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including, early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and extended number of consecutive days.
