About Shepherd Electric Supply

Since 1892, Shepherd Electric Supply has been the first call when complex, time-critical electrical challenges need to be solved, and reliability truly matters. We move materials accurately and on time, so contractors stay on schedule, projects stay on track, and customers never have to wonder if we will come through.

Our success comes from people who take pride in doing things the right way - safely, accurately, and with care for teammates and customers alike. If you want to do work that matters at a company that notices, this is the place.

Why This Role Matters

Warehouse performance depends on more than movement - it depends on accuracy, documentation, communication, and follow-through. The Operations Assistant ensures that administrative precision supports frontline execution.

When reports are accurate, fuel tax processes are handled correctly, and return or delivery concerns are addressed early, small issues do not become costly problems. This role protects margin, strengthens customer trust, and supports leadership visibility.

Work Shift and Hours:

  • Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm

Compensation Details:

  • The expected pay rate for this position is starting at $22.00 - $26.00 per hour depending on experience.

How This Role Connects to Our Compass

We Keep Our Promises:

Your reports go out on time, your documentation is accurate, and your assigned processes run without errors. When a return or delivery concern comes in, you address it before it becomes an escalation. The team counts on you to keep the administrative side clean.

We Stay Hungry:

You are always looking for a better way to organize, report, or streamline. You notice when a process takes longer than it should, and you bring it up. You do not just complete tasks - you ask whether they are being done the right way.

We Grow Together:

You support drivers, warehouse associates, and leadership with equal care. Your cross-training makes the team more flexible. When the shipping manager is out, the operation does not skip a beat because you are prepared to cover it.

We Own It:

When a report is wrong, you fix it - and you figure out why it was wrong. When a compliance process has a gap, you close it. You do not wait to be asked and you do not pass problems to someone else. If it is in your lane, you own it through to resolution.

We Go Above & Beyond:

You do not hand off a problem - you hand off a solution. You stage the second run before anyone asks. You flag the fuel tax discrepancy before it becomes a compliance issue. You see what is coming and prepare for it.

Key Outcomes - Organized by what matters, not just what you do.

Administrative Accuracy & Reporting

  • Complete daily clerical tasks accurately so no rework is required

  • Prepare and submit monthly inventory reports on time and error-free

  • Maintain organized documentation that supports audit readiness at all times

Process & Compliance Execution

  • Learn and manage the Fuel Tax agreement process correctly once trained

  • Ensure documentation aligns with operational transactions - no gaps, no mismatches

  • Support inventory accuracy and compliance standards so the operation stays clean between formal counts

Shipping & Delivery Flow

  • Load and unload trucks safely and efficiently to support daily outbound flow

  • Organize and stage 2nd run deliveries to ensure route accuracy and timeliness

  • Cover the shipping office when the manager is off to maintain operational continuity

Customer Support & Communication

  • Address return or delivery concerns promptly and professionally - resolve them before they reach leadership

  • Communicate clearly with warehouse associates, drivers, and leadership across departments

  • Flag operational issues early before they compound into larger problems

Improvement & Flexibility

  • Take ownership of special assignments from warehouse leadership and follow through without being reminded

  • Cross-train in additional operational processes to increase team flexibility and reduce single points of failure

  • Support improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, or visibility across warehouse operations

What Success Looks Like - After 90 days, you and your supervisor should both be able to point to these markers:

  • Reports and documentation are consistently accurate and submitted on time - no rework, no late submissions

  • Fuel tax and compliance processes run without repeated corrections

  • Customer return and delivery concerns are resolved without escalation

  • Leaders trust that assigned administrative processes run without close supervision

  • You proactively identify improvements instead of waiting for direction

Who Thrives Here - This role is a strong fit if:

  • You pay attention to details others overlook - accuracy is not just a habit, it is a standard you hold yourself to

  • You would rather prevent a problem than fix one later - you think ahead and act before things compound

  • You are organized, steady, and reliable under pressure - when things get busy, your work does not slip

  • You communicate clearly and respectfully across departments - with drivers, warehouse associates, and leadership alike

  • You take ownership of your work without needing constant oversight - you follow through because it matters, not because someone is watching

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Warehouse experience preferred (3+ years is a plus, but attitude and reliability matter more)

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks including lifting up to 80 lbs. using proper technique

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to getting things right the first time

  • Dependable attendance and a team-oriented mindset

  • Ability to successfully complete pre-employment screening requirements
