Job Title: Operation Specialist Reports to: Director of Operations and Recreation FLSA Code: Non-exempt, part time (hourly) Hours: Up to a maximum of 25 hours/week; including nights and weekends Location: FamilyPlex, 3219 W. Carroll Ave, Chicago, IL 60624
POSITION SUMMARY
The Operation Specialist will be responsible for creating a welcoming environment for all patrons of the FamilyPlex and ensuring the safety and security of all patrons and property. They will contribute to the positive development of Breakthrough culture by working to develop relationships with staff and guests through kind, courteous, and meaningful interactions.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / FUNCTIONS - Gain in-depth knowledge of all Breakthrough and FamilyPlex policies, procedures, services, and offerings
- Protect people and property at the FamilyPlex by being a constant presence that is monitoring the facility and parking lot
- Build positive relationships with guests, patrons, medical clinic staff, and Breakthrough staff
- Provide gracious and efficient telephone service as it relates to general inquiries
- Monitor video surveillance feeds for any unusual activity
- Communicate with staff to ensure compliance with policies to support an integrated safety team
- Provide solutions to simple issues with guests, escalating to the direct supervisor and/or Chief Program Officer when needed
- Examine doors, windows, and gates to ensure that they are secure
- Watch for and report irregularities such as fire hazards or malfunctioning utilities such as leaking water pipes or unsecured areas
- Be familiar with the location and operation of fire alarms, extinguishers, first aid kits, and other safety equipment
- Report all emergencies immediately to local authorities and direct supervisor
- Work with the safety team to complete daily building checklists, incident reports, supplemental reports, and other documents pertinent to day-to-day activities and facility upkeep
- Work with the safety team to be responsible for the care and control of radios, keys, and other equipment
- Help with set-up/clean-up of events, rentals, etc.
- Help with the upkeep and cleanliness of the FamilyPlex including but not limited to main areas, bathroom, Fitness Center, storage areas, and around the outside of the building
- Oversee regular maintenance and upkeep of the Breakthrough van, including scheduling and coordinating repairs, performing weekly cleaning, and ensuring the vehicle is fueled on a weekly basis.
- Help with minimal yard maintenance such as trash pickup, watering flowers/grass, snow removal, weed removal, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer skills
- Experience with Salesforce software or ability to learn quickly
- Flexibility and team-oriented
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and problem-solving ability
- Must demonstrate initiative and follow through, and be comfortable working in a
- dynamic environment
- Must possess an accurate and informed understanding of cultural and urban realities,
- especially as related to youth, poverty, and community development

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in a multi-purpose facility and/or outdoors and thus will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be high depending on the activities in the facility.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and/or sit; use hands and fingers to feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; regularly talk or hear. The employee must be able to bend, stoop, pull, lift as well as have an overhead extension of arms. Must be able to stand for long periods of time; be able to lift, carry or move at least 50 pounds. Must adhere to proper handling and lifting techniques. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Equipment Used
The employee will generally use general office equipment including but not limited to telephone, computer, calculator, copier, overhead projector, paper shredder, paper cutter, and filing systems.

Prior to the first day of work, must complete a criminal background and sex offender clearance.

COMPENSATION The actual salary within the range is determined by many factors including but not limited to skills, experience, education and internal equity. $19-$20/hr Breakthrough is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
