Operating Room Technician

Pay Rate: $55-$65/hour

Shift Hours: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Summary:

• Assist in the performance of routine and delegated functions under the direct supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse.
• Work closely with the Clinical Director, Nursing/designee, or attending physician or designee.

Responsibilities:

• Perform "scrub" assignment according to established guidelines.
• Apply principles and practices of asepsis.
• Perform surgical scrub, gowning, and gloving procedures.
• Set up sterile instrument table and prepare supplies according to the type of operation.
• Assist in draping of the patient and operative area according to need.
• Anticipate needs of the surgeon for instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies.
• Maintain correct count of sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulating nurse.
• Maintain and monitor aseptic technique at all times.
• Assist in care, handling, and disposition of specimens according to policy.
• Assist in application of dressings, and in securing drainage systems.
• Assist in moving patients using approved transfer devices.
• Discard soiled materials appropriately and assist in room clean-up.
• Assist in preparing medications or solutions to be administered during surgery under supervision.

Requirements:

• Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English clearly and concisely.
• Visual and aural acuity to assess patients within job responsibilities.
• Communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a variety of individuals.
• Physical stamina and dexterity to perform a variety of tasks and skills in the area of assignment.

Preferred Skills:

• Certification in Operating Room Technology preferred.
• Experience in an operating room setting is preferred.
