LSU Health New Orleans Division of Facility Services is seeking highly skilled applicants for the position of Operating Engineer Master (Building Systems). There are multiple vacancies. This is shift work monitoring the LSUHSC-NO building mechanical and energy management system, making rounds to visually inspect building systems and making repairs as assigned. Must be available for scheduled shift work after regular working hours and during holidays.

Minimum Qualifications Three years of experience or training in the operation or maintenance of large stationary engines or mechanical equipment.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: For those positions in which incumbents will be working with and handling refrigerants, possession of an appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians will be required (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990).

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties: • operates, monitors and controls system wide output • operates auxiliaries including firing up steam boilers, starting and stopping chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, refrigeration and HVAC equipment • makes hourly readings and enter on log sheets; performs chemical & softener tests; blows down boiler • maintains, inspects, and repairs mechanical equipment and components including compressors, condensers, expansion valves, service valves, thermostats, coils, and drive assemblies • maintains, inspects and repairs pumps, motors, control systems, piping, and other equipment used in mechanical systems • checks all equipment for proper fluid levels and operation before using • stays alert for safety violations by other employees that may injure those employees, this employee, or other persons in the area • takes immediate action to personally stop unsafe acts if delay to inform supervisor may allow accident to occur • serves as lead-worker over subordinate Building Systems employees • responsible for special events work; and campus maintenance emergencies
Position-Specific Details: Must be available for scheduled shift work after regular working hours and during holidays. At a minimum possession of a 2nd class Stationary Engineer's Certificate for steam boilers and a 2nd class Stationary Engineer's Certificate for air conditioning. Must have EPA certification. Must have a valid driver's license. This position is considered an essential personnel position and must be available to respond to campus emergencies after normal business hours and during campus closures. The employee may be assigned to the emergency team that remains on campus and or evacuates to an off-site location during emergency events and expected to return to work after severe weather event or other emergencies when personnel are requested to return by the Facilities Leadership.
Appointment Type: Probational Compensation: The starting rate of pay is $21.05 per hour and the 1st Quartile rate of pay is $25.26 with an additional $1 Longevity Pay, $2 Shift Differential and $3 weekend Pay for hours worked only. Rate of pay may be adjusted dependent upon applicants' experience and qualifications.
