Department: Health Systems and Population Health Sciences Salary: Commensurate with experience

Description:

The Department of Health Systems and Population Health Sciences in the newly established Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine (TJFFCOM) invites applications for a Research Faculty position. We are recruiting new faculty who have achieved excellence and are prepared to contribute to our bold vision.

This is an open-rank, research non-tenure track faculty position. This position will be full-time at 1.0 FTE. Salary and rank commensurate with experience.

This faculty is expected to engage in collaborative research within the Department, Institute, College, and University, and, when appropriate, mentor junior faculty and students. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in biostatistics, or a related field, with a track record as an investigator on grants, or potential to become an investigator. Candidates are expected to participate in funded research through collaboration with faculty members at the University of Houston. Ideal candidates should also have interest in primary care, public health, population health, or value-based payment models and have expertise in artificial intelligence / machine learning, biostatistics, and/or bioinformatics.

The faculty will be a critical force for planning, funding, promoting, and executing programs for the Department and Institute. The Institute has a mission to improve the value of healthcare, through research, training, and community engagement. Its research furthers treatment models, advances clinical sciences in areas such as primary care, nursing, social work, optometry, and pharmacy, and enhances value through high-value care and value-based payment. Its training prepares health professions students, faculty, and practitioners to thrive in and shape health systems while its engagement activities partner with communities.

Primary Responsibilities

Department responsibilities:

  • Supervise and execute relevant aspects of the research process, including question formulation, study design, study implementation, data analysis, and dissemination of results.
  • Collaborate with research partners, including the University of Houston's Colleges, Departments, Institutes and external organizations.
  • Secure extramural funding.
  • Contribute to relevant College of Medicine committees

Student scholarly project supervision:

  • Provide support and mentorship to students related to scholarly projects.
  • Assist with the recruitment and management of internal and external faculty to participate as mentors.
  • Act as a liaison for quantitative analysis study support.

Humana Institute responsibilities:

  • Participate in research, service, and educational activities that contribute to the mission of the Humana Institute.
  • Collaborate with Humana researchers.
  • Provide analytic support for stakeholders.
  • Conduct analytic consultation meetings with stakeholders.
  • When appropriate, clean data and perform analyses.
  • Provide guidance regarding the dissemination of products, including manuscripts, posters, and presentations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in biostatistics, computer science, or a related field such as epidemiology, data science, or psychology with extensive statistical training or experience.
  • Evidence of scholarly experience and productivity.
  • Track record of extramural funding as a principal investigator or co-investigator or evidence of progress towards obtaining extramural funding.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency with analytic software (e.g., SAS, SPSS, Stata, python, or R).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with building partnerships across disciplines in pursuit of educational or research objectives.
  • Experience analyzing data from clinical trials and/or large data sets.
  • Experience with student mentoring and advising.

Applicants must have a PhD, MD or DO from an accredited institution. Official transcripts are required for faculty appointments and will be requested upon selection of the final candidate(s). Physician applicants must possess an unrestricted Texas Medical License and board certification in their specialty. While exceptions may be considered, approval must be obtained from the Vice Dean of Education and/or the Dean of the College of Medicine and the Office of the Provost. All positions within the University of Houston System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check. Physician applicants are required to provide documentation of current licensure and board certification as part of their application materials.

Employees are expected to have a home address in the state of Texas for the duration of their appointments.
