The Department of Psychology seeks applicants for a tenure-track, Open Rank position in Human Factors (HF) Psychology to begin 8/1/2026. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Psychology or related discipline with training in HF Psychology. The area of specialty is open. ABD candidates will be considered but must have fulfilled requirements for the Ph.D. by the start date or the offer will be withdrawn.
Candidates at the assistant professor level must be actively engaged in research and show promise of establishing an externally funded research program. Candidates at the associate or full professor level must be actively engaged in research and have demonstrated ability to obtain external funding commensurate with their rank. Areas of particular interest include but are not limited to AI, cognitive modeling, interface design, and sustainability. The Department of Psychology is housed in the College of Science and Mathematics, offers a Ph.D. and M.S. in Human Factors and I/O Psychology, and has a large undergraduate (BA and BS) program including 5 undergraduate concentration areas: (1) Industrial/ Organizational, (2) Clinical Psychology, (3) Cognition and Perception, (4) Behavioral Neuroscience, and (5) Pre-Health. Candidates will be expected to teach a mix of undergraduate courses (e.g., courses related to HF, cognition, research methods) and graduate courses (e.g., courses related to HF psychology, human and AI teaming, situated cognition, and data analytics).
Additional opportunities for teaching are available through the interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Biomedical Sciences (BMS) within the College of Science and Mathematics. Also, research collaborations are available with other colleges, e.g., the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences. Further, the proximity of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) facilitates collaborations with Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) scientists in the Human Performance Directorate, and the Human-Centered Sciences Lab and other collaborators are housed on our campus. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue a research agenda compatible with AFRL research interests in order to build on the department's existing strong collaborations with WPAFB.

Essential Functions and percent of time:
Teach graduate and undergraduate classes, mentor graduate students, and establish an independent program of research that has the potential for external funding.
Time allocation:
40% Research: Active engagement in research with the potential for external funding. Mentor graduate students.
40% Instruction of courses: Instruct graduate and undergraduate courses. May include evening or online courses. Teaching load subject to satisfactory progress towards tenure.
20% Service:Serve on a department, college, or university committee (e.g., relating to curriculum), attend student events (e.g., Psi Chi/Psych Club), and/or other student interactions outside the classroom (e.g., talking with students about research/practicum opportunities, grad school).
