The Oncology Clinical Trials Nurse Navigator will support access to clinical trials and growth of the oncology research program at Pennsylvania Hospital by serving as a resource for patients, families, the research team and providers. They will identify clinical trials that would be beneficial to the patient, specifically reviewing the patient records to identify patients that are eligible for open trials. They will work with other nurse navigators, providers and the research team to facilitate assessment and determine appropriateness of patients for open and enrolling clinical trials. They will serve as educators for patients and families regarding the research process and specific trials. They will function as a resource to a multidisciplinary team of specialists as an advocate, interpreter, educator and counselor for the oncology patient, their family, and referring public. The oncology clinical trials navigator is responsible for ensuring patients with an oncology diagnosis receive quality and comprehensive coordinated services. The scope of this work includes facilitating dynamic scheduling for patients, triage services and patients as needed, coordination of care, facilitation of clinical research enrollment, and integration of clinical activities across various specialties in cancer care. Additionally, the oncology clinical trials nurse navigator will work to decrease barriers to access clinical trials for our patients, including public education about clinical research, working with community and advocacy groups to identify and address barriers to access clinical trials.
