Overview
This role facilitates patient access to the Radiology system by performing registration and check-in functions for both scheduled and unscheduled patients. Responsibilities include collecting and verifying accurate, Joint Commission-compliant patient demographics, identification, insurance information, and authorization for services.
The position is responsible for obtaining completed and signed radiology orders, entering and scheduling orders in EPIC, verifying demographic and financial data, and ensuring proper electronic documentation and filing within designated systems.
Additional duties include ensuring appropriate ICD-10 coding aligns with the signs and symptoms documented on imaging requests, and maintaining compliance with all applicable federal regulations, including HIPAA and medical necessity requirements.
This role supports the protection of organizational revenue by verifying medical necessity according to payer guidelines and assisting Financial Specialists in obtaining required patient waivers (e.g., ABNs) when necessary. The position also schedules, cancels, and reschedules appointments while maintaining strict patient confidentiality.
In addition, the role collaborates closely with Financial Specialists to support point-of-service collections, helping patients meet their financial obligations and improving reimbursement for the organization. The position also provides administrative and clerical support to Radiology Technologists and other clinical and support staff within the hospital and across the health system.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Continuing education beyond high school is preferred.
A minimum of two (2) years of clerical or customer service experience is required, with at least one (1) year of experience in a healthcare environment preferred. A two-year degree may substitute for one (1) year of clerical or hospital/medical practice experience.
This position requires the consistent use of courtesy and patience when interacting with all customers to support strong public relations. Professional customer service skills are required for both in-person and telephone communication, along with basic PC and keyboard proficiency.
Familiarity with ICD-10 and CPT coding, as well as medical terminology, is preferred. Knowledge of EPIC, Biscom, OnBase, insurance terminology, and basic anatomy is also preferred.
Strong critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced and occasionally high-stress environment are required.
The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with clinics, physicians, patients, and clinical/technical staff is essential. Candidates must be able to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, stay organized, and problem-solve independently while contributing to a team environment.

Employees in this position will not be required to operate a vehicle for assigned business purposes.
