Department Description

Student Experience is a division of HPU's Office of Student Life that strives to foster a welcoming and engaging environment for all students while promoting personal growth, campus involvement, and meaningful connections within the HPU community. The Student Experience team supports student programming, summer initiatives, campus engagement opportunities, and general student support services across campus.

Job Description

The Graduate Summer Activities Assistant will support the Student Experience team through student engagement initiatives, event support, facility operations, customer service, and general office assistance throughout the summer months. This role provides hands-on experience in leadership, event planning, communication, problem-solving, and student development in a fast-paced campus environment.

Graduate Summer Activities Assistants will assist with planning and executing summer programs and events, supporting campus operations, engaging with students and guests, and collaborating with professional staff to ensure a positive student experience. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently. This role will also oversee both the arcade & cinema facilities.

Job Location/ Hours Required

  • Ability to work weekdays, evenings, and some weekends as need around programming and operational schedules (will also account for summer class schedule).
  • The candidate will perform most/all job duties in the R.G. Wanek Center and the Slane Student Center, in addition to other campus and community event/venture trip locations.
  • Hours may vary depending on departmental needs and campus programming schedules; however, the maximum number of hours a graduate student employee may work per week is 20 hours [25 over academic breaks].
  • Position requires a minimum of 15 hours per week.
  • Employment will begin Summer 2026.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Must be enrolled in a graduate program at High Point University.
  • Good standing with Community Standards, if applicable.

Experience and Training

  • Customer service experience in a professional setting is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products and general technology platforms is necessary.
  • Knowledge of HPU and understanding of the university's culture and resources is necessary.
  • Experience with student activities, programming, leadership, or event operations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers the HPU experience through face-to-face interactions, phone calls, emails, event engagement, and possibly social media.
  • Monitors weekly coverage and ensures that all employees are arriving & leaving on time, and that all shifts are covered.
  • Assists with planning, setup, execution, and breakdown of student programs, summer initiatives, and special events
  • Support general office and operational tasks related to Student Experience programming and services
  • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of university resources and assists students and guests as needed
  • Maintains the arcade & cinema facilities, ensuring that all equipment is functioning, cleanliness and operational standards are always met, and that supplies remain stocked.
  • Commitment to addressing facility maintenance or technological needs in a timely manner; & following up.
  • Collaborates with professional staff and student employees to ensure successful event execution and positive guest experiences.
  • Commitment to keep supervisor updated on all need-to-know information including, but not limited to maintenance concerns, employee issues/concerns, needed supplies, new ideas for improvement, summary of office hours, and progress on projects/tasks.
  • Assists with summer student engagement initiatives, including Summer Advantage and Welcome Week preparations.
  • Recognizes sensitive information and maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Execute multiple projects and responsibilities efficiently while maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to serve as on-call and address any issues in a timely manner during operational hours [except for during class time]
  • Enforces attendance policy for undergraduate student employees, logging all infractions and hosting check-ins as needed.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the university calendar, important deadlines, university processes and policies.
  • Collaborates with members of the Student Experience team to ensure a quick resolution to any issues or concerns.
  • Executes multiple projects and job functions with efficiency.
  • Ability to communicate in a positive, professional manner.
  • Ability to focus on details and prioritize tasks.
  • Works with a sense of urgency while maintaining composure.
  • Other duties as assigned.
