MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant licensure desired
  • Previous experience as School Health Tech/Aide desired
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) desired
  • Certified/Trained in CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration, Diabetes Basics, and Universal Precautions. If not certified, on-the-job training required by District Nurse.
  • Excellent customer-service skills, interpersonal skills, accurate and medically appropriate skills in a school clinic setting, telephone, email, written and verbal communication
  • Experience working with children/adolescents and families
  • Highly organized and demonstrated time management skills
  • Computer skills: word processing, spreadsheets, electronic student databases, email
  • Ensure high standards of confidentiality and privacy under strict HIPAA rules and guidelines
  • Maintain calm during high-stress situations, and ability to quickly assess student needs and medical priorities

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To provide basic health assistance and first aid to students, per formal training (e.g., quick response to medical needs within the school, parent contacts, medication administration as prescribed, contact with district nurse, prepare student to return to class or go home, monitor students with chronic health conditions, etc.)
  • To follow up on school-related injuries and accidents with parents
  • Reassures students with illness/injury and offer additional resources, if necessary (e.g., work with mental health, school nurse, etc.)
  • Contacts assigned District Nurse for emergencies or urgent health-related matters
  • Educates students about healthy living as appropriate advised by assigned school nurse
  • Timely and accurately completes recording of health information and all visits to Health Office, per school policy
  • Maintains health care plans, including working with assigned District Nurse in distributing health care plans to appropriate staff, et seq.
  • Maintains immunization records on all students, including data entry, parent contact to ensure compliance, exemptions, et seq.
  • Administers medication in accordance with policy and State of Colorado Standards
  • Diabetes management, including diabetes care, dosing/administering insulin, carb counting, et seq.
  • Maintains clean and orderly clinic (i.e., medication, first aid supplies, etc.), per pre-established rules of professionalism
  • Clerical and data entry as needed
  • Personal-care support for students with more intensive health-related needs
  • Assists with Health Services Projects (e.g., training, assist with hearing/vision screenings, field-trip medical management, etc.)
  • Directs reporting to Principal, District Nurse, and Head Secretary
  • Other relevant duties as assigned by Principal or assigned School Nurse Consultant
