Job Goal: To train new driver candidates for placement on open routes to ensure they can perform all safety procedures with proficiency and are prepared to safely transport students when released to drive solo.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/Equivalent
Twenty-one years of age
Current driver's license, valid in Kentucky
Physical examination, Board-appointed physician
Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
Criminal record check
Driving history check
No chargeable accidents within the last three years.
No drug or alcohol convictions within the last five years.
Exemplary Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B, Endorsements: Passenger (P) & School Bus (S).
Kentucky Certified School Bus Driver Trainer Instructor (may acquire after appointment).
Minimum 2 years school bus driver experience.
Able to push, pull and lift 45 lbs. and bend at the waist, kneel and lift hands over head.
Performance Responsibilities:
Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses and obeys all traffic laws.
Assists regular and train replacement drivers for open routes.
Drive routes that are listed on daily board as assigned by the Director.
Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects and completes post-trip check at end of each route to ensure no students or belongings remain on the bus.
Maintains discipline when students are on the bus and reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
Conducts pre-service instruction for new bus driver trainees in accordance with the curriculum developed by the Division of Pupil Transportation approved by the Kentucky Department of Education.
Assists in the preparation and development of training components that will make up the annual eight-hour first aider certification modules in accordance to applicable Kentucky Administrative Regulations.
Evaluate bus driving performance of bus drivers who have been involved in a preventable incident and provide remedial training as directed.
Train and assist new drivers concerning student behavior management problems and situations.
Assist route managers with the daily evaluations and home bus route data in VersaTrans.
Prepare and maintain a variety of bus driver records, including driver's license and certificate expiration, medical expiration and training hours required for the renewal of bus driver certificate, operate computer terminal, prepare transportation reports.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Performs each other reasonable duties within the scope of the transportation department as may be assigned by the Director or the Assistant Superintendent.
