Assistant Transportation Director

Job Goal: To support the Transportation Director in organizing and implementing a safe and efficient transportation system for all Oldham County students. To supervise the maintenance of the fleet of vehicles owned and operated by the Oldham County Board of Education.

Job Type: ClassifiedJob Class Code: 7903Position Type: HourlyReports to: Director of TransportationTerms of Employment: Compensation will be determined based on 260 contract days on the board approved 116 salary schedule. This position requires an 8-hour work day.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate
  • General supervisory skills
  • Computer Skills: Word, Excel
  • Commercial Driver's License Class B with Passenger Endorsement (May acquire after obtaining position)
  • State Certified Driver Trainer (May acquire after obtaining position)
  • Experience in vehicle maintenance desired.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the development of safe bus routes consistent with district policies and state requirements for district schools.
  • Responsible for bus route surveys.
  • Establishes an efficient and effective preventive maintenance program to include the bus fleet and all other district vehicles.
  • Assist Director and Assistant Superintendent for Support Services in recruiting, screening, training and evaluation of all transportation staff.
  • Acts as a liaison with parents for complaints and special requests.
  • Respond to bus collisions and completes necessary reports.
  • Promotes high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work-connected areas.
  • Verifies time cards of transportation staff.
  • Check county roadways in the event of inclement weather.
  • Performs such other reasonable duties within the scope of the transportation department as may be assigned by the Director or the Assistant Superintendent for Support Services.
  • Acts as Transportation Director in his/her absence.
