Primary Purpose Provide occupational therapy services for students with disabilities which impact their educational program.
Qualifications Education Certification Bachelors or Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy from an approved credited occupational therapy program. Current Licensure by the State of Texas Certification by the American Occupational Therapy Association
Experience Experience in pediatric occupational therapy preferred Experience as an occupational therapist in a public school setting preferred or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work.
Major Responsibilities and Duties Conducts necessary assessment to determine eligibility for occupational therapy as a related service. Provide general consultation or other occupational therapy program services for school administrators, educators, assistants, and parents. Responds to evaluation referrals for students with disabilities. Select appropriate evaluation tools, evaluates students, interpret findings, and report results to the IEP team. Develops and presents level of function and IEP goals and objectives in conjunction with the IEP team. Implements service delivery on assigned students based on the goals, objectives, percentage of time, and placement as determined by the IEP team. Utilized an approach that encourages student participation in the least restrictive environment. Participates in the selection, design, and/or construction of necessary adaptive equipment. Maintains records on referred students, including dates of referral, dates of response, and outcomes. Maintains organized working files on assigned students. Follows documentation guidelines for student attendance and intervention notes. Supervises Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) as per established guidelines. Adheres to established federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Maintains confidentiality of student information. Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Physical Demands Environmental Factors The daily activities of the occupational therapist are performed in a school setting. There is a high level of interaction with students may be required to deal with parents/students. The work requires getting up and down off the floor and physically moving and guiding student motor movements. The occupational therapist is required to travel to different sites during the day.
