Job Summary:
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides skilled occupational therapy services to residents with the goal of achieving their highest level of independence and functional ability through therapeutic activities designed to improve daily living skills, strength, coordination, and overall quality of life within a long-term care environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Carries out individualized occupational therapy treatment plans developed by the in accordance with resident needs, goals, mandatory supervision requirements and facility policies.
Provides therapeutic interventions to improve residents' ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs), functional mobility, and cognitive-perceptual skills.
Accurately documents treatments, progress notes, and resident responses in compliance with state, federal, and facility guidelines.
Communicates effectively with the rehabilitation interdisciplinary team, and nursing staff regarding resident progress, treatment adjustments, and discharge recommendations.
Instructs residents, family members, and caregivers in adaptive techniques, energy conservation strategies, and use of assistive devices.
Ensures a safe treatment environment, adheres to infection control standards, and complies with all regulatory requirements (i.e. Medicare, state, and facility standards).
Participates in care plan meetings, quality assurance programs, and performance improvement initiatives to support positive resident outcomes.
