Job Summary and Qualifications

Job Summary:

Provides diagnostic and therapeutic services & rehabilitation to patients to assist in obtaining their highest functional level of improvement for the performance of daily activities and regaining independence.

Role responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Willingly shares knowledge/expertise and assists coworkers. Fosters teamwork and contributes to achievement of team goals. Acts as a resource for coworkers as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates competency and performs consistently under non-routine conditions and complex situations. Coaches other on performance and suggests ideas for development. Uses knowledge to challenge current assumptions/practice. Significantly improves specific processes; recommends and facilitates initiatives to improve stakeholder value. Drives key business improvements and results. Participates as a subject matter expert.
  • Demonstrates competency and performs consistently under routine conditions/situations. Applies appropriate tools and methods. Shares knowledge and information.
  • Continues to acquire knowledge and develop skills, due to new technology or newness in position. Acquires knowledge through self-directed and/or formal learning methods; develops skills through practice of acquired knowledge. 
  • Assesses patient's condition, takes history, and develops treatment plan, to set measurable and achievable and determines goals to reach maximum functional independence for Activities of Daily Living (ADL's) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL's). 
  • Records and documents patient observation, treatment and changes in condition. Monitors, analyzes and reviews clinical data. Re-evaluates and modifies treatment plan and goals based upon patient performance. Adapts recognized therapeutic techniques and modalities to meet the needs of the patient.
  • Collaborates with patient services departments and community service agencies to coordinate and conduct educational outreach programs and learning activities. Utilizes appropriate methods and materials for effective learning, monitors response to education and adapts programs as needed. 
  • Supports hospital initiatives in meeting core measures, patient safety and service excellence goals. 
  • Communicates and interacts with patients, families and others in a caring, empathetic, courteous, and respectful manner. 
  • Communicates clearly and provides explanation of care in a way that can be easily understood by patients and their families. Ensures patient's family is informed of patient status. 
  • Assesses learning needs and capabilities of the patients and caregivers. Initiates patient and family education in a timely manner relative to age, length of stay, readiness to learn and emotional status. 
  • Communicates effectively and works with physicians and/or other members of the interdisciplinary team in meeting patient needs. 
  • Demonstrates use of the interdisciplinary team approach to patient care; collaborates, confers and updates other team members regarding patient progress, treatment, and discharge planning. 
  • Actively contributes to and works toward hospital wide improvement in meeting core measures, patient safety and service excellence goals. 
  • Continuously evaluates work process and design; understands role in ensuring quality/performance improvement, productivity, and service delivery to meet stakeholder needs. 

What qualifications you will need:

  • (OT) Occupational Therapist
  • Bachelors Degree
  • 3-5+ years of relevant work experience in an acute hospital setting preferred
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support, or BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital is a 221-bed acute care hospital. We serve the communities of Seminole and West Volusia County.
