Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist Assistant, under the direction of an Occupational Therapist, is responsible for assisting with tests and providing restorative and rehabilitative Occupational Therapy services to participants both at the Center and at home. The goal is to maximize participant independence, safety, and enhance the performance of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). The assistant will collaborate with the rehabilitation team to implement the plan of care established by the Occupational Therapist and promote team culture and mission.

Job Responsibilities

  • Administer treatment programs as established by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Assist in obtaining vital signs, range of motion, and strength testing.
  • Coordinate with the rehabilitation team to implement activities and programs based on individual treatment plans.
  • Handle scheduling of treatment, clinical visits, and billing.
  • Deliver and document Occupational Therapy interventions in accordance with established care plans, including the use of devices and techniques to promote muscle re-education, perceptual-motor and cognitive function, balance, and endurance.
  • Provide training and instructions to staff, participants, and caregivers/families in the use and care of therapeutic equipment.
  • Track and manage maintenance for equipment.
  • Remain alert to input from team members, participants, and caregivers, and update the Occupational Therapist promptly of any changes in participants' condition or functional status.
  • Participate in end-of-life care coordination and support under supervision.
  • Be legally authorized to practice in position location and act within the scope of authority.
  • Complete all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Protect privacy and maintain confidentiality of all procedures and information about team members, participants, and families.
  • Follow policies and procedures and participate in required Quality Improvement activities, staff training, and meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with the Supervisor and team regarding workload and priorities.
  • Complete all mandated trainings and education in a timely manner.
  • Complete all mandated occupational health screenings as needed.
  • Exercise flexibility in performing assignments as business needs evolve.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a clinical setting with a frail or elderly population.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to treat frail, elderly participants with complex needs.
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, able to execute tasks in a quickly changing environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
  • Excellent clinical, organizational, and communication skills in settings with seniors, their families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience and competency working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Commitment to unlocking the full potential of our most vulnerable seniors.

Schedule Notes

M-F 8a-4:30p, on-site 3 days and 2 days off-site work. Off-site includes mobile visits to participants' homes for treatments, equipment setup/training, and some telehealth. Responsibilities also include scheduling recurring appointments and maintaining the rehabilitation gym.
