The Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA/COTA), under the supervision and direction of a licensed Occupational Therapist, assists in providing restorative and rehabilitative occupational therapy services to participants in both center-based and home settings. This role focuses on maximizing participant independence, safety, and functional performance in activities of daily living (ADLs).The Occupational Therapist Assistant collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary care team to implement treatment plans, support participant goals, and promote the organization's mission, values, and culture of excellence in senior care.
Administer occupational therapy treatment programs as established by the Occupational Therapist.
Assist the Occupational Therapist in obtaining vital signs, range of motion measurements, and strength assessments.
Deliver occupational therapy interventions according to established care plans, including:
Therapeutic activities and exercises
Muscle re-education techniques
Balance and endurance training
Perceptual-motor activities
Cognitive rehabilitation interventions
ADL training and functional mobility support
Monitor participant progress and promptly communicate changes in condition or functional status to the Occupational Therapist and interdisciplinary team.
Participate in end-of-life care coordination and support under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist.
Coordinate participant treatment schedules, clinical visits, and billing activities.
Collaborate with rehabilitation team members to implement individualized treatment plans and therapeutic programs.
Complete all required clinical documentation accurately and within established timelines.
Maintain participant confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational privacy standards.
Provide training and instruction to staff, participants, caregivers, and family members regarding therapeutic equipment and prescribed interventions.
Monitor, track, and coordinate maintenance of therapy equipment.
Support participant and caregiver education to promote safety, independence, and treatment compliance.
Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives.
Participate in required staff meetings, trainings, occupational health screenings, and continuing education activities.
Associate Degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
Occupational Therapy Assistant degrees earned outside the United States must be evaluated and determined equivalent to a U.S. Occupational Therapy Assistant degree.
Current and valid California Occupational Therapy Assistant License.
Legally authorized to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the State of California.
Minimum two (2) years of Occupational Therapy Assistant experience in a clinical setting serving frail, elderly, or medically complex populations.
