Primary Purpose:
To assist and promote La Joya ISD District in implementing a rigorous curriculum and instructional program that supports student success and achievement.
Department Primary Purpose:
The Special Education occupational therapist assistants primary responsibility is to provide quality occupational therapy services to assigned individuals under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Associate degree of Applied Science with a major in Occupational Therapy Assistant Program or related field
Certification:
- Valid Texas license as an occupational therapist granted by the State Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
- Ability to implement occupational therapy treatment programs as specified by occupational therapy plan of care
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Responds to requests for services in accordance with school district policies and procedures.
- Assists with data collection and evaluation under the supervision of an OT.
- Assist with instructing teachers, staff, and parents in the use of adaptive equipment, assistive technology programs, or devices and integration of therapy goals into the educational program.
- Develops Individual Education Plan (IEP) under the supervision of an OT.
- Implements and coordinates intervention plan under the supervision of an OT.
- Provides for consultation services that follow a documented routine and accepted procedure under the supervision of an OT.
- Adapts intervention environment, tools, materials, and activities according to the needs of the individual and his or her socio-cultural context under the supervision of an OT.
- Follows policies and procedures required in the Special Education Department.
- Performs continuous quality improvement activities and/or program evaluation in collaboration with an OT.
- Maintains treatment area equipment and supply inventory as required.
- Schedules and prioritizes workload under supervision of an OT.
- Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and other documents required, including accurate student records and patient progress notes.
- Selects, adapts, and implements intervention under the supervision of an OT.
- Modifies treatment approaches to reflect changing needs under the supervision of an OT.
- Formulates discontinuation and follow-up plans under the supervision of an OT.
- Educates others in the area of established service competency under the supervision of an OT.
- Contributes to program planning and development in collaboration with an OT.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
