SUMMARY:

We are seeking an Occupational and Recreational Therapy Supervisor to join our Inpatient Psych team. This fulltime role will work days.

Purpose of this position: Supervises and coordinates staff therapist's activities; oversees general workflow and special projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Exhibits leadership behaviors that support staff to take responsibility, authority, and accountability for decision making related to patient care

  • Supervises service delivery across the continuum including inpatient, outpatient and offsite clinics

  • Clinical resource for staff including orientation and training of new staff and the development of ongoing competencies and education for all staff

  • Develops and administers departmental policies, procedures and workflow in accordance with hospital policies and leadership

  • Participates in development projects and program growth within the department and the organization

  • Serves as clinical liaison to other departments and staff

  • Confers with physicians, nurses, social workers and others with regard to patient care

  • Recruits, hires, trains and evaluates staff and monitors and ensures staff understands and complies with organizational standards, competency requirement policies, procedures and regulations

  • Oversees orientation mentor programs

  • Conducts performance appraisals for all direct-report staff

  • Implements developmental or performance improvement plans with staff

  • Assigns and supervises the daily workload of the clinical and support staff

  • Assesses staffing needs and participates in staffing recruitment and retention planning

  • Supports the organization's plans and goals by ensuring ongoing development in department workflow, tools and support structures

  • Identifies clinical opportunities and needs for program development and implements plans in collaboration with leadership and other departments

  • Participates in electronic health record development and maintenance in accordance with professional guidelines and payer requirements

  • Meets weekly with manager

  • Communicates departmental and organizational information timely

  • Manages department supplies and inventory within budget

  • Performs and/or delegates in the absence of clerical staff

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy
  • OR-
  • Graduate from an accredited school of Therapeutic Recreation
  • AND-
  • Three years of clinical experience, including one year of experience in a lead position
  • OR-
  • An approved equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous clinical experience in psychiatry
  • CPR certification

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate, both written and verbal, with an ability to express and understand complex technical concepts
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Proven ability to establish work plans, goals, and manage to those objectives
  • An effective team builder and leader with a track record of integrating functions and fostering a positive work environment that motivates staff to achieve their potential

License/Certifications:

  • MN license as an Occupational Therapist
  • Current NBCOT registration
  • OR-
  • Certification in Therapeutic Recreation
