Job Description

The Occupational Health Service Line Development Physician serves as a key clinical leader tasked with the creation, execution, and enhancement of occupational health initiatives within a healthcare system, clinic, or private entity. This position merges clinical knowledge with business strategies, adherence to regulations, and safety protocols to foster and sustain the physical, mental, and social health of employees.

This physician's primary focus is on the prevention, diagnosis, and management of work-related injuries and illnesses, while also aligning with organizational objectives such as minimizing workplace risks, enhancing productivity, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.

Education and Training:
  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Board certification or eligibility in Occupational Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine.

  • Preferred board certification in Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

  • Active and unrestricted medical license in Massachusetts.

Required Qualifications and Skills:
  • In-depth understanding of occupational health regulations and workplace safety standards.

  • Proficiency in clinical care as well as program development and administration.

  • Exceptional diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills.

  • Strong business insight with the capability to expand service lines.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct medical evaluations and provide treatment for work-related injuries and illnesses among hospital personnel.

  • Perform pre-employment, return-to-work, and fitness-for-duty assessments.

  • Design and implement occupational health programs, policies, and procedures.

  • Oversee and manage employee exposure to occupational hazards, including biological, chemical, and physical risks.

  • Work in conjunction with infection control, HR, and safety teams to avert workplace incidents.

  • Lead vaccination and immunization initiatives for healthcare staff.

  • Interpret and adhere to OSHA, CDC, and other regulatory guidelines.

  • Supervise workplace health surveillance programs (e.g., TB testing, respiratory fit testing).

  • Provide recommendations on ergonomics and workplace accommodations.

  • Engage in incident investigations and suggest corrective measures.

  • Maintain precise and confidential employee health records.

  • Educate staff on occupational health risks and preventive measures.
