Job Summary
Purpose of Position:
To assist the Senior Nursing Director (SND) in planning and management of the patient care services. To provide professional nursing leadership and administrative direction for nursing practice for Registered Nurses, and, as indicated, for Licensed Practical Nurses and assistive personnel. To participate as a member of the transplant leadership team to provide and continually improve health care services and to support the mission and goals of Michigan Medicine. To ensure the quality of nursing services provided to patients.
Organizational Relationships:
Supervision Received: Administratively responsible to the SND, Ambulatory Care Services, for nursing practice, administration of the nursing contract, and provision of operational leadership. Works collaboratively with all members of the leadership teams of the multiple organ transplant groups.
Supervision Exercised: Responsible for professional practice and clinical competence for regular and temporary of Registered Nurses and support staff members (including but not limited to Licensed Practical Nurses and Medical Assistance). Works collaboratively with the ACU management teams in the management of other support staff not directly reporting.

Required Qualifications*
Applicant must meet one of the following:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing OR
Associate degree or Diploma in Nursing and a Master's degree in Nursing.
Minimum five (5) years RN experience.
Minimum two (2) years of recent (within the last 5 years) RN experience in clinical area of expertise.
Nurse Leadership certification or completion of a nursing leadership certification within two (2) years of accepting this position. Certification is expected to be maintained while in this leadership role. Examples include Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML) or, Nurse Executive (NE-BC). The nursing leadership certification must be recognized by the Magnet Recognition Program and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC.), for the list visit here .
Evidence of demonstrated or potential leadership ability, including charge nurse, team leader or other management experience.

Desired Qualifications*
Previous experience with and knowledge of computerized online/web- based education technology or programs.
Master's degree in Nursing
Minimum 2 years (within the last 5 years) experience within transplant/ambulatory care environment
Recent Transplant experience which includes active participation in nursing staff orientation/education/leadership
Knowledge of and/or previous involvement with regulatory agencies audit and compliance needs (i.e. UNOS/CMS)
Functional expertise with respect to program development and educational processes (i.e. curriculum development, instructional methodologies, evaluation strategies, etc.)
Strong computer skills, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Experience in change management and managing staff transitions to new roles/responsibilities.
Strong understanding and knowledge base of nursing and patient care practices.
Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with education and nursing staff, ancillary departments or disciplines, medical staff and administrative leadership.
Action orientation with ability to function with limited supervision/ direction and meet assigned deadlines.
Ability to function as a positive change agent and provide direct mentoring, coaching and leadership.
Excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude

Work Schedule
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
