Summary:

The Nursing Excellence Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and sustaining initiatives that promote high-quality, evidence -based nursing practice and support nursing excellence programs such as Magnet/Pathways to Excellence. This role is responsible for providing a broad scope of responsibilities that contribute to providing leadership and mentoring. This position collaborates with nursing leadership, frontline nursing, and interprofessional teams to advance patient outcomes, professional practice, and a culture of safety and quality. This position is responsible for providing support and guidance for process improvement activities for all areas of Patient Care Services. This position is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and systems which facilitate and enhance professional nursing practice.

Provides strategic oversight for nursing excellence by advancing innovative systems, promoting clinical research, shared governance structures that elevate patient care delivery Responsible for ensuring the Magnet or Pathways to Excellence framework and essential domains are enculturated and hardwired into the organization through coordination, education and consultation with Leadership. Coordinates all aspects of the ANCC Magnet or Pathways to Excellence application, annual reports and re-designation process.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION

  • BSN degree required;
  • MSN or MS degree preferred
  • Current NYS RN license required;
  • BLS certification required within six (6) months of hire.

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of three (3) years of recent nursing work experience is required.
  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of work experience with significant exposure and involvement with operational practices including financial and clinical responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead teams focused on achieving established goals and outcomes.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills focused on healthcare operations, including the management of large projects that involve a diverse group of professional, technical, nonprofessionals and clerical associates across the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Solid PC Skills utilizing Microsoft Suite software applications.
  • Strong project management skills including the development of the initial concept, development of goals, and objectives in concert with hospital policies and evidence based practices with outcomes measured by metrics established at the onset of the project.
  • Excellent analytical ability to identify opportunities for improvement as well as positive problem resolution.
  • Strong mentoring and coaching experience.
  • Actively seeks out healthcare trends and issues that relate to the hospital and work environment to advance the quality of patient care in a cost effective manner.
  • Solid knowledge of process improvement methodology, data collection, analysis and ability to develop and implement action plans from data.
  • Solid knowledge of the research process and ability to assist with research project development, implementation and evaluation of a project.
