Position Overview
A leading healthcare facility is seeking an experienced Nursing Director – Inpatient Care to oversee Medical/Surgical Units and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This leadership role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care while maintaining compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
The Nursing Director holds 24-hour accountability for patient care services, operational performance, and departmental leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and operational oversight for inpatient nursing services (Med/Surg and ICU)
- Ensure delivery of high-quality patient care, safety, and compliance with regulations
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
- Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and best practices
- Manage staffing, scheduling, and workforce planning
- Oversee departmental budgets and financial performance
- Monitor quality metrics and lead performance improvement initiatives
- Promote patient- and family-centered care approaches
- Support staff engagement, retention, and professional development
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
- Active Maine RN License or Compact RN License (in good standing)
- Strong leadership and management experience in acute care settings
- Active state licensure required prior to start
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred
- Nursing leadership certification preferred
- Specialty certification preferred
Assignment Details
- 13-week contract
- Monday–Friday schedule
- No holiday coverage required
- Guaranteed 40 hours per week
- On-call responsibilities may apply
- Overtime available after 40 hours
