Position Overview:

The Nursery Purchasing Agent is responsible for leading and optimizing nursery purchasing activities across assigned branches to ensure product is available at the right time, in the right quantities, and at the most economical landed cost. This role serves as the primary nursery purchasing subject‑matter expert, driving consistency in purchasing practices, inventory management, vendor coordination, and logistics execution.

The Nursery Purchasing Lead partners closely with branch leadership, vendors, logistics teams, and category leadership to support seasonal programs, promotions, and long‑term supply planning. This role provides leadership within the nursery category by applying disciplined purchasing processes, analyzing inventory trends, and identifying opportunities to improve availability, efficiency, and total cost. While not a people manager, the role is expected to lead through expertise, influence, and execution.

 

 

What you’ll do:

  • Review and analyze daily below-order-point reports and procures products for the branches with volumes that did not meet the auto buy parameters.
  • Communicate daily with branches regarding purchasing of product and other special nursery needs.
  • Communicate with vendors regarding product availability and purchase orders.
  • Assist branch manager with special projects, including but not limited to early orders, product promotions and vendor negotiations.
  • Manage logistics for nursery locations by ensuring timely, economical, and freight-efficient deliveries from vendors.
Skills We Are Seeking::
  • 2+ years of horticulture/nursery experience required
  • Strong working knowledge of plant material and other nursery products
  • Proven understanding of purchasing and inventory management philosophies
  • Prior experience in purchasing, inventory management, or branch support within a distrubution environment
  • Must possess strong analytical skills and excellent customer service skills
  • Must be proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent expereince in horticulture, supply chain, business, or a related field
  • Experience supporting multiple locations and managing vendor relationships preferred

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Compensation for this role starts from $60,000 annually, with final compensation determined by experience, skills, location, and internal equity. This position is also eligible for short and long term incentive bonuses/variable compensation
