Job Title: Nurse Supervisor / Assistant Director of Nursing (Labor & Delivery)
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Job Type: Contract (13 Weeks with possible extension)
Schedule: 37.5 Hours per Week | 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Nurse Supervisor / Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) – Labor & Delivery to support clinical and operational leadership within a Maternal/Child Health unit.
This role is responsible for supervising nursing staff, ensuring high-quality patient care, and driving performance improvement, compliance, and operational excellence within the Labor & Delivery department.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Maternal/Child nursing, Labor & Delivery, and nursing leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Staff Supervision
- Supervise and support nursing staff within Labor & Delivery
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and corrective action as needed
- Promote a culture of accountability and clinical excellence
Quality Improvement & Performance Management
- Develop and implement patient care improvement programs
- Monitor employee performance and clinical outcomes
- Partner with nurse managers to evaluate unit performance and compliance
Compliance & Patient Safety
- Maintain systems for:
- Medication error tracking
- Counseling and documentation
- Ensure adherence to:
- Hospital policies
- Patient safety standards
- Regulatory requirements
Operational Excellence
- Support initiatives that enhance quality of care and workflow efficiency
- Collaborate with leadership to improve departmental performance
- Promote best practices in Maternal/Child and Labor & Delivery care
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (required)
Licensure & Certifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – New York State (required)
- BLS Certification (required)
- Primary Source Verification through NYSED (required)
Experience
- Minimum 7 years of nursing experience (required)
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory or leadership experience (required)
- Strong experience in:
- Maternal/Child Nursing
- Labor & Delivery
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Nursing (preferred)
- Experience in program planning and patient care improvement initiatives
- Strong background in clinical quality and operational leadership
